EuroMillions Review

EuroMillions – the one and only multi-national lottery of Europe is 100 percent worth a try because of the spectacular jackpots you’ll get access to. Here’s everything you need to know about EuroMillions, its history, rules, and prizes.

Introduced on February 7, 2004, the very first draw took place on February 13 (a Friday!) 2004 in Paris, France. Initially, EuroMillions was available solely in the UK, France, and Spain In October 2004, the game expanded and it became available in Belgium, Austria, Ireland, Luxembourg, and Switzerland.

The EuroMillions draw takes place every Tuesday and Friday at 8:45 p.m. in Paris. The common EuroMillions ticket rate is 3 euros per line (for all countries apart from the UK where the ticket costs 2.5 pounds).

Currently, EuroMillions is an international lottery available in nine European countries. Still, the impressive jackpots attract players from all parts of the world.

There are several additional reasons why the popularity of EuroMillions has grown so much over the years. The standard drawing is quite lucrative but there are various even more spectacular opportunities made available occasionally.

EuroMillions holds special promotions throughout the year with each entry being based on tickets purchased. Prizes feature holidays in the prestigious Monaco resorts and a variety of other outstanding cities and special sporting events around the globe!

EuroMillions Rules

Playing EuroMillions is relatively simple. Depending on the place where tickets have been bought, the price can vary from two euro to three CHF. Each player has to choose 5 main numbers in the range from 1 to 50 and 2 Lucky Stars in the range from 1 to 12.

The jackpot winner needs to have all 7 of these numbers correct.

The EuroMillions drawings take place each Tuesday and Friday at 8:45pm CET. Separate spheres are used to draw the main numbers and the Lucky Star numbers. The procedure is aired live in some of the participating countries.

Initially, there was just one drawing. The Tuesday drawing was introduced in 2011. It gave players an additional opportunity to win huge prizes, which boosted the international popularity of EuroMillions even further.

Even if you don’t win the jackpot, there are 12 additional prize tiers. The lower ones aren’t that impressive, but the odds of winning any prize is quite good. Combined with the relatively low ticket prices, this fact makes EuroMillions definitely worth a try.

Apart from the standard drawings, there are special events, giving to the players chances to win additional sums. Superdraws take place occasionally. The minimum guaranteed jackpot for these is 130 million euro. There’s also a special event called European Millionaire Maker that was introduced in 2016. The special event is a raffle-style draw that’s valid for all of the countries participating in EuroMillions. The raffle could produce an additional price of one million euro.

Keep in mind that the described regulations are valid solely for the official EuroMillions game. If you’re interested in the opportunity, check the lottery’s official website or go through a recognized online lottery agent. Since EuroMillions is so popular, there are dozens of scams that use the lottery’s name. Don’t trust any supposed EuroMillions offers that you get via email, mail or by phone. An official lottery is never going to contact you. Rather, you are responsible as a player for purchasing your tickets.

EuroMillions Prize Breakdown

In addition to the fantastic EuroMillions lottery jackpot, you can win the other prizes ranging from £2.70 (€4) to £211,823.60 (€310,751).

Keep in mind that if there’s no jackpot winner during the respective week, the jackpot will roll over. This is the main reason why the top EuroMillion prize can often reach such impressive dimensions. The number of rollovers is limited to a jackpot that reaches 190 million euro. If there’s still no winner, the amount will be rolled down to the lower prize tiers. It’s a win-win situation for everyone involved, including people that will otherwise end up getting quite unimpressive amounts.

There’s also a minimum guaranteed jackpot. The sum was initially set to 15 million euro, but in 2016, this changed. After the introduction of the new rules, the minimum guaranteed jackpot is 17 million euro and the cap remains set at 190 million.

The maximum jackpot of 190 million euro was won for the first time after the introduction of the cap in the summer of 2012. Adrian and Gillian Bayford from the UK became the biggest EuroMillions winners. An anonymous ticket holder from Portugal won the maximum jackpot in October 2014. This was the second time that the cap was reached and snatched.

EuroMillions jackpots are paid in the form of a lump sum. Depending on the country where the ticket has been purchased, there could be some taxes. Still, most nations that participate in the international lottery keep the prizes tax-free.

The amount of time that you have to collect the prize after the drawing is also dependent on the country where the ticket has been bought. Local regulations may differ, affecting the prize collection period.
