Govisetha Review

The National Lotteries Board, which was established in 1963 by the Finance Act, is the umbrella body under which the Govisetha lottery game lies. Thenceforth, the Act has been amended several times, including in 1997 and 1998, to make it compliant with the changing financial regulatory environment. The Committee on Public Enterprises has given its recommendations that the Act is amended again to meet the broad objective of the National Lotteries Board.

Who can play at OLG Pick 3?

The above amendments and activities show the vibrant nature of the lottery environment in Sri Lanka. The NLB has the vision to create state investment through community participation in the improvement of their social and economic lives. The lotteries under the National Lotteries Board have won the confidence and general acceptability of the Sri Lankan people, and this applies to Govisetha as well. The funds raised through ticketing in Govisetha go to payment of prizes, and part of it goes to the Farmers Trust Fund vested under the Ministry of Agriculture and Lands.

How to Play Govisetha

With such a colorful background, one can almost predict that playing Govisetha is not at all difficult. The game was introduced into the family of lotteries in Sri Lanka in 1995 with a clear objective to raise funds to support the Farmers Trust Fund. The Fund aims at promoting agriculture and the general welfare of farmers in Sri Lanka by providing them with much-needed financial backing for their activities.

Govisetha has draws that are held every day from Monday through to Sunday. The modalities to qualify for the draws are the same, and all you need to do is to choose 4 numbers and one letter from a pool of numbers that are provided for you on the playslip. There are different ways of picking the numbers, as explained below.

Manual Number Picking

This is where the player picks the numbers he thinks are his favorite or those that stand a chance to win a prize. This is done through a playslip which has an array of numbers segregated in panels. Each panel constitutes a play. As you mark the numbers, you should exercise caution because a simple mistake can render the panel void. In case you mark it wrongly at the bottom of the respective panel, there is a void box that you should check to disregard the entire panel.

Depending on the number of plays you want to be entered for, you should check the boxes showing advance draws. If you choose more than one draw, you should understand that the same numbers you have chosen will be entered in the successive draws.

Quick Pick

Here, you instruct the clerk at the terminal where you are buying your ticket to generate your ticket through the Quick Pick system. In this arrangement, you allow the computer terminal to make the selection for you instead of physically picking the numbers yourself.

You can also have a combination of Quick Pick and manual picking through the playslip. At the bottom of each panel or play area, there is a QP box that you can check for that specific panel to be generated through Quick Pick. The onus is on you to go for the method that suits you best.

Govisetha Ticketing

Once you have finished filling out the manual playslip, you should hand it over to the clerk so that he can generate a ticket for you. The Govisetha tickets vary in color based on the day of the draw. On Mondays, the tickets are green in color, Tuesdays they are red, Wednesdays they are blue, Thursdays are Yellow, Fridays they are gray, Saturdays they are purple, and Sundays they are orange. The color scheme was adopted specifically to make it easier for you to differentiate the tickets when verifying against the results announced.

The ticket has many features among them:

  • The price paid is printed on the bottom left.
  • A QR code is imprinted on the bottom right.
  • The NLB logo is on the upper right and the name of the game is at the midsection of the ticket.
  • The numbers you have chosen, including the beginning letter, also appear on the face of the ticket.
  • Each ticket has a serial number, date, and other particulars that are useful for confirming its originality.

On September 2, 2008, the price per Govisetha ticket was increased from the previous Rs.10 to Rs.20. At the same time, a new prize structure was also implemented to go along with the increase in price.

Once you get your ticket, you should sign it on the back. The reason you do this is to ensure that the ticket is authenticated and becomes yours genuinely. Players who do not sign tickets at the back risk losing them to opportunists who immediately sign them for claiming prizes. Also, your ticket must be kept neat and not folded. Folding it could lead to defacing, which in turn makes it difficult during ticket verification for prize awarding purposes.

Govisetha Prize Breakdown

As stated above, the draw for Govisetha is held daily from Monday to Sunday. This means you have an opportunity each day to win a prize. The draws are conducted using lottery machines, which are verified before by the relevant authorities, and the balls randomly picked and checked for bias before being used. During the draw, the balls are always visible, and this is important for credibility. To further enhance accountability and transparency, the lottery drawing process is televised live and supervised by select officials from different stakeholder groups as well as the members of the public.

Much like in the other lotteries, the results of the drawing process are posted on the official Govisetha website and also published in a select number of dailies. You can also confirm the results from the stalls where you bought your ticket from or any other NLB accredited establishment.

  • The prize structure consists of 9 categories with the top category being the super prize. To win in this category, you have to match the 4 numbers plus the letter correctly. The starting amount for the category here is Rs. 60 million.
  • The second category gives you Rs. 1 million if you match the 4 numbers correctly.
  • In category 3, you need to match 3 numbers correct plus the letter, and you win Rs. 20,000.
  • The fourth category requires you to match just 3 numbers out of the 4 without the letter to win Rs. 2,000.
  • The fifth category requires players to match 2 numbers and a letter to win Rs. 1,000.
  • The sixth category requires you to match only 2 out of the 4 numbers, and you win Rs. 100.
  • The seventh category has a prize of Rs. 40 and requires you to match any number and the letter correct.
  • The last two prize categories have equal prizes of Rs. 20 with one requiring that you match only the letter correctly while the other requiring you to match any number correctly.

Once you confirm that your ticket has won a prize, you should make arrangements for claiming it either from your local NLB accredited retailer or from the headquarters if it is a bigger prize amount.
