Spot and run away from lottery scammers
How to recognize the lottery scammers
There is one big thing that has taken the lottery world by storm. It is not the jackpots or other great prizes won, but rather the advent of scams in lotteries. The unfortunate thing is that they are created to compete with the true lotto games and in the process fleece money out of unsuspecting players. Basically, lottery scams are imitations of real lotteries and the person who plays lotto for the first time may not even notice that the game is a sham. This article is going to enlighten you on how lottery scams operate.
The people who create scams have mastered the art of presenting themselves in a way that they seem authentic. Most of them will say they are lawyers, claim agents, bankers or tax collectors. They will use any title just to convince you that they are high ranking people you can trust. You may be wondering what they will tell you to get what they want. The answer is anything that they think you will want to hear, especially things like declaring you a winner in one of their many lotteries.
There are two variations of lottery scams that you need to know so as to identify and avoid. The first one uses the concept of ‘fake win’. Here, the scammers send you mail and request you to contact a certain agent immediately. You do not get to communicate with them directly because they use a third party to link the two of you and hide their identity. Thereafter the targeted person is summoned to an office where he is given the conditions of receiving the prize. These conditions are usually outrageous and include asking a person to spend twenty times the prize money in order to receive the prize itself.
The other type of lottery scams is the ‘blackmail variation’. It works only when the target person agrees to accept an amount of money that they are very sure they are not entitled to. How the scammers maneuver this for their benefit is that they ask the person to pay an advance fee and if he declines, they threaten to report him unless blackmail is paid. In essence, they extort money out of you without having even the slightest real reason why you must pay them.
Every person who participates in lotteries must learn to discover scams and help fight the menace that they are.
