Viking Lotto Rules
Playing Viking Lotto is far from complicated, but since there are a couple of ways to win and to increase prizes, beginners may feel a little bit overwhelmed. Here’s a breakdown of the rules to help you get started.
To play Viking Lotto, you have to choose 6 numbers from a pool of 48. If you match all 6 of the numbers for the respective Wednesday drawing, you will win the jackpot. The jackpot amount is split among all of the individuals that have a correct numerical match. The first prize is common for all of the countries that participate in Viking Lotto. The lower prize tiers are local, and there could be variations from one country to the other.
Apart from the 6 main numbers, each drawing features 2 additional bonus numbers. These are drawn from the remaining 42 numbers after the 6 main numbers have been chosen.
Players that buy a ticket will automatically enter the Lucky Number Pot. This is an additional prize that’s providing on top of the main prize tier. As you’ve probably guessed already, the amount is determined by the 2 additional numbers drawn. If you have 6 correct numbers and 1 correct bonus number, you will win a Lucky Number Pot bonus on top of the jackpot. The pot amount isn’t affected by the doubling option.
The Lucky Number Pot prize is available in all of the participating countries apart from Sweden.
All of the Viking Lotto prizes are paid out in the form of a cash lump sum. Players have 1 year from the date of the drawing to claim any of the prizes. How the prize is going to be paid out (valid for all of the tiers) will depend on the country from which the ticket has been purchased. Official national operators have specific rules and regulations that are listed on their websites.
When it comes to taxation, things will once again depend on the place of ticket purchase. Finland, for example, doesn’t tax lottery income. If you are an international player, you will also have to check the regulations in your own country – income taxes could apply to you, regardless of the country where a prize has been won.
The Odds of Winning Viking Lotto

Viking Lotto Prize Breakdown
Ever since its launch in 1993, Viking Lotto has been a traditional jackpot-style game that is characterized by a standard numerical matrix. To win the jackpot, players should have all 6 numbers correct. If there’s no winner for the respective drawing, the jackpot will roll over towards the next one. This way, Viking Lotto has been known to produce some pretty spectacular jackpots.
The biggest jackpot in the history of Viking Lotto fell in 2013. The spectacular amount of approximately 25 million euro was won in Norway. The lucky winner wished to remain anonymous, and the official operator refrained from providing additional details.
The second largest jackpot was won in the summer of 2012. Once again, the lucky person was from Norway. They won about 20.3 million euro.
Players that get 5 numbers and the bonus number correct can expect a prize of approximately 30,000 euro. The prize for 5 correct numbers is 1,000 euro, for 4 correct numbers – 30 euro and 3 correct numbers – a fixed prize of 7 euro.
The numbers do change when doubling is activated. As the name of this option indicates, all of the prizes are doubled, including the regular jackpot for the respective drawing. Doubling becomes available if players pay 0.2 euro more per line. If the player hits a specific number linked to the feature, all of the prizes will be doubled.
