Euro Millions Lottery Scam
Have you recently received a letter that you have won the Euro Million? If yes, sorry to spoil your fun, but that’s probably a scam letter. The scam is quite a poorly planned one as no legitimate lottery company will contact you through mail that you have won the lottery.
The scam letter will inform you that you have won about a quarter of a million dollar in the Euro Millions lottery. To make it seem a reality, they usually enclose a check worth $3500 as down payment. The check looks authentic and many unsuspecting lottery players may easily fall for it. You will later get to know that the cheque is as fake as your $250,000 prize, this is after you lose a fortune to the scammers.
In the lottery scam letter, you will be informed that the cheque is to cover some ‘non-residential’ taxes. This is a smart move, as spammers know that most lottery players hate to part with a percentage of their winning to taxes.
You are then asked to quickly bank the cheque and send some cash to process your winnings. The fee might be in the range of $1000 to $1500. Most victims send the money as they think its logical to spend $1000 and get $25000 in return without breaking a sweat. They further reassure themselves that even if the prize won’t come through, they have already banked the $3500 cheque.
It is after a few days that the victims will be in for a rude shock. The bank will notify them that the cheque banked was fake and therefore had bounced. You will then lose all the money that was credited to your account. That’s not all, you may be charged for forgery and face some jail term. This is how one day in paradise can lead to an eternity of hell!
