Have all the lottery information you need as a player
The more lottery information, the better
Having the right information is very important no matter what you are doing. Getting involved in any project without being properly informed can end up costing you money and wasting your time. When playing the lottery the more information you have the better.
This can be in regards to playing the game, how to claim your winning prize, how to spot a lottery scam and most importantly what legal obligations arise when you play lottery. Imagine playing the lottery, then finding out you have won lotto numbers but you cannot claim your prize. That would be a definite downer.
Usually when you won the lotto numbers, you will be required to identify yourself to the lottery you played. The lottery usually has a way of verification based on information given during the purchase of the ticket whether online or in a store. This is how many fraudsters have been identified while trying to claim a prize for a ticket they did not buy.
This is how a store clerk was arrested. An elder lady went into his store to confirm if her ticket had won a prize. When he realized it was worth a lot more he decided to tell her that it was worthless and he would get rid of it for her. When he called the ticket hotline to try and claim the prize they realized he didn’t have the right information as regards buying the ticket. Luckily she had used her credit card.
Recently a Canadian lottery player found out that purchasing lottery tickets with his credit card meant he was incurring extra charges. His bank was treating the lottery purchase as cash withdrawals thereby charging him a daily interest fee as well as a standard fee. Although he managed to have the bank refund the charges he will not be using his credit card to buy lottery tickets anymore.
The bank however made it clear that they do not have these charges levied if you purchase a lottery ticket for a charity. You however would have to inform your bank that that specific ticket was for a charitable cause for them to then verify. This is important information to have to avoid incurring unnecessary additional costs.
Every lottery winning will attract taxes. These taxes must be paid to avoid penalties. Most lotteries give lotto winners their cash prizes after tax. So if you have a ticket with winning lotto numbers be sure to confirm if the money you’re given if before or after tax. You don’t want the taxman breathing down your neck years after.
Reported cases of lottery winners who continue to claim benefits from social services has been on the increase. Once discovered they are usually charged. Reporting that you no longer need welfare to avoid such a scenario is only common sense. The process of clearing your name after becomes very messy. So avoid the hassle and know what winning the lottery could mean for you.
