Members of Powerball pool split $1 million prize
Those who need another argument in favor of purchasing lottery tickets or joining a Powerball pool will be inspired by the story of Connie Baumer. She and 11 colleagues won $1 million by playing the lottery and the decision to pool money together and join the syndicate was simply brilliant. Connie is a long-term lottery player but until recently her experiences were less than successful and she almost gave up hope of winning a significant amount. Luckily for her, she didn’t resist the temptation of joining her colleagues at the St. John’s Medical Center Emergency Department and she finally broke the ice.
$1 million split among 12 players
The nurses at the medical center used to play the lottery individually but more recently they decided that maybe it is time to set up a Powerball pool. The advantage is that by playing together they spent less money on tickets and could purchase more of them, while also increasing their chances to win. They presented Connie Baumer with the opportunity of joining them and although she was reluctant to jump on the bandwagon right away, eventually she did.
The Powerball jackpot stands at over $200 million, but even this second-tier prize of 1 million is a blessing for 12 nurses. The winners will get a five digit amount, which is slightly more than what they make per year, so they have no reason to be discontent. In fact, some of them decided to talk to the media and share their emotions, with most of them overstating the importance of joining the Powerball pool. Some chose to keep a low profile so they are only known by their name, as the reporters had no problem in finding out who were the 12 colleagues who pulled money together for the lottery.
A well deserving group of winners
Local community members are thrilled with the fact that the 12 nurses won the money and say that these women fully deserve the cash. They work long hours to make sure that those in pain get well soon and they are entitled to receive a bonus in the form of a Powerball prize. After taxes, each of them will receive $56,000 which is a great return on investment given the fact that each of them paid $10 to buy the winning tickets for five weeks.
Colin Bauman was in charge of purchasing the tickets and her decision to use the Quick Pick for selecting the numbers was particularly inspired. When she realized that they’ve matched the numbers and will split $1 million, she immediately informed her colleagues and some of them found it hard to believe it. It comes as no surprise that when someone learns about the fact of winning the lottery the first reaction is disbelief, but in the end the nurses realized that their Powerball pool both the winning ticket.
